BOOK NOTES

Why Christians Crack Up is written by an MD. and it deals with the causes of and remedies for nervous trouble in Christians. His chapter on how immaturity effects mental health is worth the $2.95 that the books cost.

The Practical Use of the Greek New Testament by Kenneth Wuest does not call for even a working knowledge of Greek. He opens up many facets of scripture that are missed if one never considers the Greek. $3.25.

We have a new supply of Cochran’s The Fool of God, which is the story of Alexander Campbell, and a book that you should not miss. Raccoon John Smith, also by Cochran, may be even more important since it deals with a very important pioneer Disciple that we do not know as well as Campbell. They are both paperback and are only $1.95.

Voices of Concern: Critical Studies in Church of Christism is a book you are hearing about, and will continue to hear discussed for a long time. You should have your own copy to preserve for posterity and another copy to keep loaned out. They are $3.50 per copy.

J. D. Thomas, a professor at ACC, has issued an informative volume entitled Facts and Faith, which deals with problems of reason, science and faith. He has a helpful chapter on evolution. A substantial volume, attractively bound with dust jacket. $4.95.

Christians Only by James DeForest Murch is a 384-page history of the Restoration Movement, and is only $2.98 in paperback.

Unger’s Bible Handbook is on special for $3.95. This book has everything: a concise commentary of every book of the Bible, archaeology, history of the Bible, church history, history between the Testaments, world religions, maps, and much more. You’ll know a lot more after this one.

Situation Ethics by Joseph Fletcher is a presentation of “The New Morality”, which contends that there are no ethical systems or moral standards in any absolute sense, but that doing right depends on the circumstances. He sees love as the only norm for moral decision. It is a very provocative book, highly relevant and modern. Keep your mind young and free by reading this kind of book. $1.95 in paperback.

Jesus of Nazareth: Saviour and Lord is edited by Carl Henry of Christianity Today, and we highly recommend it as an important source for understanding recent developments in Christian thought. Henry himself has a very helpful chapter on contemporary theological developments. Others probe the place of history, the Dead Sea Scrolls, revelation, resurrection, etc. in recent scholarship. It is a “conservative” interpretation of everything from Barth and Bultmann to Kerygma and a philosophy of history. $5.95.

Wuest’s Word Studies come in four volumes, and are a real buy at $24.95. They take you all the way through the New Testament, treating the major words and terms along the way. Highly informative and reliable.
